Taiwanese Tian Bu La (Sweet and Spicy Strips) is named after Japanese tempura.

The character 「甜」 (tián) refers to tsukudani, a Japanese term for seafood simmered in soy sauce, a traditional Japanese home-style cooking method.
The character 「辣」 (là) refers to deep-frying.

However, it is different from tempura, which involves dipping fish, vegetables, etc., in batter and deep-frying them. Tian Bu La, on the other hand, is made by mixing various fish to create fresh fish paste, which is then kneaded into long strips. Its taste and appearance are very similar to ordinary deep-fried fish cakes.

Easy and convenient to cook, it can be used in hot pot, soup, Taiwanese oden, deep-fried, or air-fried. Each pack contains approximately 35-37 pieces.

Suggested Cooking Methods:

  • Blanching: Completely immerse Tian Bu La strips in boiling water for about 5-10 minutes and serve.

  • Deep-frying: Without thawing, deep-fry an appropriate amount of Tian Bu La strips. The oil level should be more than half the height of the Tian Bu La strips in the pot. Wait for about 3 minutes until the Tian Bu La strips float to the surface, then they are ready to eat.
